After 18 years of rug hooking i have developed a tried and true method.
How to finish off a hook rug.
Bend the non sewn ends of the binding to the rug s bottom.
Here s one side done but now what do we do with those pesky corners cut a square out of the corner and fold over the other edge and tack down really well.
Basic latch hook finishing.
Use a needle and thread to secure them in place with an overcast stitch.
Remove the straight pins when all the ends are secured.
After the edge of the rug is prepared folded and secured in place with some simple basting it is time to whip the edge of your hooked rug.
Attach the non sewn end of rug binding to the bottom of the latch hook rug.
It is my fold forward finish for hooked rugs.
Cut the excess mesh off of your latch hook rug at about 4 cm 1 1 2 inches from where your hooked rug ends.
Continue stitching and attaching your canvas down for the rest of the rug now when i asked around a lot of people actually finish their rugs by sewing a piece of felt onto the backside.
Pin them in place with straight pins.
Fold your 1 of unused rug canvas down at the back of your latch hook project.
Sew that segment as directed below then trim more as needed.
Choose one of these options for finishing your project and look forward to years of use and enjoyment.
