Jeyes fluid moss on roof.
Anything that holds moisture on a flat roof is generally considered a benefit but more so in the summer.
After about five or six years when the original polymer coating on concrete tiles has dissolved away or after cleaning off old moss and lichen it would be worth treating the surface of the tiles with a biocide a cocktail of fungicide bactericide and algaecide or a very strong horticultural disinfectant like jeyes fluid.
Allow 30 minutes then rinse off with water and scrub with yard brush.
Leave it until the moss withers then just brush it off.
The grit is spread over the roof to do exactly what the moss is doing ie shielding the felt.
I don t think it will hurt domestic animals but it could harm insects worms slow worms etc if it reaches them.
I use diluted jeyes fluid in a watering can for killing off the moss on our block paving.

Its the heat of the sun in summer that gubbers flat roofs as the expansion and contraction is what ruins flat roofs.
Moss on a roof is only a cosmetic problem its presence does not affect the lifespan of a tiled roof.
Please use the jeyes fluid and the water it is dissolved in very very sparingly.

Have a good look at the jeyes fluid web site as it has been used a a disinfectant in gardening for 50 or 60 years i would guess.

It is used by by vegetable gardeners to sterilise the soil and does not harm.
Since ec regulations in 2003 the product is no longer effective at killing moss nor will it be effective at preventing moss re growth.
Alternatively a low pressure wash with jeyes fluid or similar may do the trick applied by a long arm pipe brush.
I don t know if it kills moss but it can help remove it from paths.
