How to make a custom rug out of fabric.
Starting with the long sides fold the fabric edges up over the mat.
Place the fabric over it and smooth it out.
Make sure you get the whole surface covered.
Cut off any excess around all four sides so that all three layers are the exact same size image 2.
On my strip of drop cloth i used glue to fold about half a inch of it over to make a neat line i do this on both sides with glue and then add more glue to the strip and place the rug on top of half of the strip and and add more glue and fold the other half of the strip on top of the rug.
If you added two inches of fabric fold the fabric on top of itself first to create a hem and then fold over the mat.
Spray the rug backing s smooth side with adhesive spray and place it onto the fabric.
Lay out the hemmed drop cloth flat on the floor and attach area rug tape to the underside.
If needed add extra spray adhesive along the edges of the fabric and the rubber mat.
This will keep it from slipping both while you paint and when you walk on it afterwards.

Lay the cotton batting on top of the rug pad also pressing out any creases or folds.
Next break out your fabric paint painter s tape and a foam brush.
Spray glue is sold like spray paint in a can no equipment needed but it does cost about 8 a can.
White glue like elmers would work.
